Lowell Regional Transit Authority

I have helped develop several high profile branding campaigns for the LRTA geared to increase ridership, promote the LRTA brand, inform riders about new service improvements, and inform the general public about the environmental benefits of public transportation.

Each campaign utilized a multimedia approach which included newspaper, radio and transit advertising, posters at the transit authority and flyers handed out to riders.

I was also responsible for designing bus schedules and bus passes used by over 1.2 million riders annually.

Try Transit Week Ad Campaign

To encourage people to ride the bus, the LRTA participated in Try Transit Week, a national initiative to promote the benefits of public transit.

During Try Transit Week, the LRTA offered free rides, giveaways, and also chose to unveil their new compressed natural gas clean air trolley fleet.

LRTA Bus Passes

When the Lowell Regional Transit Authority decided to implement a monthly bus pass program, I designed a set of passes for each of 4 categories of rider.

Each pass displayed a different photo and logotype so bus drivers could easily distinguish between each category at a glance. This strategy prevented adult riders from cheating the system by paying a reduced rate with a Student or Senior Citizen Bus Pass.

I also chose different color schemes each month, paying special attention to not have similar colors on consecutive months or on the same months each year. This also prevented riders from tricking the bus drivers by showing an old card from the previous year or month.

LRTA Posters

I have designed hundreds of posters and flyers for the LRTA in an effort to inform the ridership of new service improvements and changes taking place throughout the system.

Newspaper Advertising

The LRTA runs several newspaper ads throughout the year with The Lowell Sun newspaper in an effort to increase ridership and keep the public informed about changes at the transit authority. The newspaper ad campaign also serves to reinforce the LRTA's brand as a progressive organization looking to improve the environment.
